What is AWeber?
Aweber is an email marketing tool designed to manage and automate email and newsletter campaigns and provide ecommerce solutions for small to medium-sized businesses. The system offers an attractive and easy-to-use user interface and provides a wide range of appealing templates, comprehensive tracking and reporting, and robust user segmentation features. Aweber also offers a simple subscription service with paid plans having access to all features, with higher plans allowing greater monthly subscriber lists.
SParent company Aweber Communications has its headquarters in Chalfont, Pennsylvania, in the US. It was founded 20 years ago by current CEO Tom Kulzer when he wrote some email automation software in his job as a hardware salesperson and found it increased his sales numbers. With over 300,000 active clients, the company is still privately-owned and prides itself on being a values-driven company that respects employees and clients alike. The company has won numerous awards, including four Stevie Awards for having the Customer Service Department of the Year and Pennsylvania’s Best Place To Work ten times.
All paid packages support extensive email creation and sending with hundreds of email templates with a drag-and-drop editor. HTML, dynamic content and AMP emails are supported, as are split testing, behavioral automation, and cart abandonment messages. You also get unlimited landing pages and templates, with access to thousands of free images supported by Google Analytics and Facebook pixel tracking. Aweber supports list building with sign-up forms and provides the option of sign-up form split testing while offering a WordPress plugin.
An advanced feature is subscriber segmentation, which can tag subscribers and send them to basic segments or save and send them to custom segments. Each segment gets a dedicated management dashboard to avoid confusion. One feature highly regarded by Aweber users is the extensive reporting capabilities available, providing simple subscriber and message analytics and offering some advanced message, audience, and account analysis. Webpage and email sales tracking come as standard. Aweber also provides an ecommerce solution that allows you to sell products and services, take subscriptions, and offer payment plans, all with competitive transaction fees. Aweber also offers hundreds of integrations, including Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, Paypal, and Facebook.

How much does AWeber cost?
*based on information provided by the vendor. Actual cost may vary.
Getting started with Aweber is free, offering fewer features than the paid plans and limiting you to 500 subscribers. All the basic email marketing abilities are available, including HTML, dynamic content, and even AMP emails. You can’t do split testing or email automation, and you don’t get abandoned cart messages. Also, you’ll get Aweber branding on all you send.
Surprisingly you also get all the landing page features and templates, including Google Analytics, but you won’t get Facebook pixel tracking, and again, you’ll have the Aweber branding somewhere on your page. You can’t do custom segmentation, you get only the basics, and advanced reporting capabilities are excluded from the free plan.
The paid plan gives access to every feature the Aweber offers, with unlimited email sending and profile lists. Aweber’s paid plan is called Start Pro and differentiates five options by the number of subscribers on your list, with the five tiers being:
Monthly | Annually (per month) | |
---|---|---|
0 to 500 subscribers | $19.99 | $16.15 |
501 to 2,500 subscribers | $29.99 | $26.15 |
2,501 to 5,000 subscribers | $49.99 | $46.15 |
5,001 to 10,000 subscribers | $69.99 | $66.15 |
10,001 to 25,000 subscribers | $149.99 | $146.15 |
Over 25,000 subscribers | Quote | Quote |
Final thoughts...
We like Aweber and what it offers; while it’s not quite in the same league as Mailchimp or comparable large service providers, it is cheaper and offers some great options they don’t like AMP email support. We also like that Aweber does appear to listen to feedback. When people complained about not having a free plan, they implemented one, and complaints about poor integrations saw many added. If there is one thing we’d like to see, it’s greater automation capability, and we’re sure Aweber is working on that.
On balance, you get a capable product at a good price, with friendly, helpful support and a simple pricing plan that doesn’t cripple your features in the lower tiers. Whether you’re starting a new business or looking to automate your email marketing, Aweber is worth considering.
